The State and National Highways are the primary arterial roads that facilitate a smooth vehicle traffic flow and provide crucial connections to other highways and expressways. However, Indian vehicle commuters often witness heavy congestion and long queues at toll plazas.
The Indian Government introduced FASTag in 2014 under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system to provide travelers with a convenient way to make electronic toll payments and improve their travel experience. For all commuters, and especially those who have opted for a State Bank of India FASTag (SBI FASTag), here’s a step-by-step process on how to check SBI FASTag balance and ensure enough funds for an uninterrupted highway journey.
FASTag is a digital toll payment system that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. It became mandatory on January 1, 2021, for four-wheelers and larger vehicles (Class M and N) used for carrying goods or passengers. You can use FASTag at over 1,200 toll plazas across the country (National Highway and State Highway toll plazas).
The FASTag sticker, which you place on your car's windshield, automatically reads and collects toll taxes as your vehicle drives through a toll plaza. This system eliminates the need for cash, reduces wait times, simplifies the toll collection process, and ensures traffic flows more smoothly on highways.
SBI FASTag accounts fall into two KYC (Know Your Customer) categories:
Limited KYC holders’ accounts have a cap that does not allow you to have more than ₹10,000 in your account at any given time. Similarly, you can only add a maximum of ₹10,000 to this account within a single month.
A Full KYC FASTag account allows for a significantly higher balance, with a maximum limit of ₹2 lakh. Importantly, there are no restrictions on the reload amount, unlike the limited KYC option.
The SBI FASTag balance check can be done online through the following methods:
